April was a crazy month.  As we all know, Google came up with new Panda and Penguin and another 50 updates to its search algorithm. There isn’t cute name for every new update, Google don’t name it at all, sometimes others such as Webmaster World name them, as with the Mayday update in year 2010. The same history with Panda update. Other people started to call it Farmer because this update was about combat low quality sites called farms. Google didn’t like the name and gave the official name to Panda. Even worst it was with the Penguin. The cute name came after people was looking for new name to this update and actually in one pool on Facebook was winning name for latest update “Titanic”. Google quickly made the Penguin name.

Some of my sites was hit by those updates, I’m actually still looking for the reason why. I didn’t do too much backlinking to those sites because I’m just too lazy and actually other sites linking back to me after while anyway. It call the natural linkbuilding and that’s what Google likes. I didn’t do any spam sites with stacking words or similar techniques. Actually after reading about last G updates I realized that it’s big G who screwed things up. Lots of sites drooped down in search results and sometimes you can find on the first page of Google results weirds sites with last update in 2004 or even parked domains without any actual text on it.

I simply decided to leave everything as it is and wait for the time when the shakeup will finish. I’m just enjoying the life a bit more then before and wait. My monthly earnings dropped down but now I can call it the real passive income.

Let’s see the numbers:

My online income report for April 2012:

Adsense: £ 466

Infoliks: $ 150 (£93)

Other: £ 33

*Expenses: £ 126

Net income: £ 466

£ 466 is 580 Euro and about 750 US Dollars.

 

As you can see, April online income was a bit worst then March online income but as I said before, April was really crazy and lots of people was actually talking about closing the whole Internet Marketing down. I’m not shutting down, just simply waiting and looking for the way how to recovery.

 

* I always spend all money from Infolinks and other advertisers and affiliate programs because I get this money to my PayPal account and then use it for outsourcing, new hosting and domains payments. The Adsense income going straight to my business bank account and it just stay there for while. I’m not spending this money back on the business and that’s the reason why it is the Net income.

At the beginning of my online money making journey I was hopping to get £1 per day in average. And also each month increase of £1/day each month. It means: if I do in December 2010 £31 for whole month (£1 per day), in January 2011 I should get £62 (£2 per day), February 2011 £84 (£3 per day), etc. Yes my goal is £1 a day better than last month. At this moment I should be at £18 per day in average. In January I was getting over £20 a day, now in April was my online business giving me just over £15 per day in average. Actually first time ever I’m under the goal. I hope it will be over £20/day again, I’m just not sure if I will be able to get it in May. We will see.

One more thing. The big drop in earning wasn’t only because I get less visitors to my Pro Blogs thanks to Google updates I actually forgot to renew domain name for one of my Top 5 earning blogs. Lesson learned :)

Monthly income report March 2012

This is scary. It’s already April and the first 90 days of 2012 went so quick. I know, last time I was talking about doing as much work as possible but sometimes we should just stop the work and enjoy the life. The life is just too short and quick. We can’t live the 2011 again, it’s gone and all we have is nice or bad memories. I’m always trying to get as much nice memories as possible for me and my beautiful fiancé. That’s the reason why we are outside on some trip every single weekend and did last year two vacations. Actually we are trying to do even more this year. The first one is Dublin where we will be this Easter. I hope there will be nice weather and we will be able to get some nice memories.

Anyway, back to the Earth and to the monthly income reports. As I told you before, I’m doing each month report of my Adsense and Affiliate income to inspire you and keep you building Pro Blogs even you are not getting the money at this moment. Everything need its time and each Pro Blog need the time to grow and make some money to your pocket. If you are going through this difficult time, please check my report to see where you can be in one year time.

My online income report for March 2012 in numbers:

Adsense: £ 575

Infoliks: $ 260 (£162)

Other: £ 52

*Expenses: £ 214

Net income: £ 575

£ 575 is 690 Euro and about 920 US Dollars.

As you can see, March online income was a bit better then February online income but March was 2 days longer and if you scroll down to see the report of daily average you’ll find out that the March daily income was actually exactly the same as in February.

I’m not exited about it (like over the moon) but definitely not disappointed. Actually, last six months the online income was always about £500 and compare to renting property, you have to own house or flat with price tag £100 000 to get £500 as monthly rent from tenant. And of course, you don’t have many chances to double the income in next six or twelve months. Yes, with building new Pro Blogs you have much bigger chance to get double of that money in one year time.

Do as much work as possible

So you want to make money online? Then you should have some smart rules. If you don’t have any, here is the second one.

The rule No2: Do as much work as possible

I do little bit of outsourcing for my Pro Blogs and I actually find out that it’s great time saver. Instead of doing something boring I can do or try some new things and get better results. For new type of work I always find new person. Sometimes Top guys, sometime newby freelancer. I have new guy for about two weeks in my team and he actually never did job like this before. But I hired him to give him a chance. I knew it won’t cost me much to find out if he can or cannot do it. I won’t tell you his real name, let’s call him Niko. Niko is great guy from East Asia and we chat not only about work every second day. Niko is hard worker and even his English is not perfect (even my is not perfect and I’m proud about my level of English), he can understand what I need and that’s the most important thing. After first two jobs I asked him how much should I pay him per hour to keep him happy. He said (of course) more than I did before and I actually gave to him even 50% more. I’m giving him work for 2 hours a day. If I can I’ll give him more but I can’t just tell somebody who is working for me more them half an year “Sorry, but I have someone else to do your job”, that’s not my style and if I’m happy with somebody I never replace that person.

Back to the point. Today we had conversation.

Niko: Hi, I sent you the last job, it’s done. Please check it and report any mistakes.

Me: Hi Niko, I’ll check it a bit later today. It was pretty quick I was expecting to have it done sometime next week. Thank you.

Niko: Do you have any more for me today?

Me: I’m sorry, I’ll try to find something but it won’t be today. I actually told you not to rush with it because I don’t have anything else at this moment. (out of the conversation: sometimes it’s just misunderstanding but me and Niko can work with that)

Niko: Sorry I didn’t understand it. I thought I should do it quickly. I actually didn’t take another job because I wanted to concentrate on this one.

Yes this is the point where I was heading from the beginning. Then we had long chat where I told him to never ever cancel any more jobs from another employers. Something like: “You should take as much work as possible because you can end up only with one thing. Lots of money for your work. Because at this moment you are in bad position. Employers are choosing from hundreds of freelancers. You need to walk to another side where you’ll be in the position of deciding who you want to work for.”

Yes, I’m not talking about Niko ONLY. It’s about me, you, everyone who is trying to make money online. We should always make sure we have more work then we can actually handle. And if I can’t handle on my own? I’ll find some freelancer who is happy to help me and do the work even better and faster then me. This is win-win situation and you should find the path to it. You should have that much work with your Pro Blogs that sometimes you won’t be able to do it just on your own.

Monthly income report February 2012

Monthly online income report for February 2012

 

Right, it’s already March and I should show you some February income numbers as I promised one month ago. I’m not doing this only because I made a promise, I’m showing my monthly income reports because I want to give you some inspiration here. To all new bloggers. Starting a Pro Blog is long way and it’s not that easy but at the end, you can always get some money back for your hard work. Also, any online income will definitely keep you motivated and will kick you closer to the success.

The breakdown of my online income for February 2012:

Adsense: £ 540

Infoliks: $ 225 (£142)

Other: £ 75

*Expenses: £ 217

 

Net Income: £ 540

£ 540 is about 640 Euro and over 850 USD.

The January was nice jump, now in February I’m going a little bit down. But everything what is going up need to go down one day. The main thing is, it’s moving the right way even if is moving backwards, sometimes. I’m definitely not disappointed about it. I have some good days and some bad days for my online business, especially with Adsense. In bad days I’m always feeling sad for Google. Because they are trying to do their best to get the most targeted ads on my Pro Blogs and sometimes it just doesn’t work. And of course, it’s not me who is loosing, it’s Google. Why? Because Google get about one-third from my income. Shouldn’t I say “I’m loosing more”. Not really. I can always go and try someone else who can handle my ads better. Where can go Google?

If you check those numbers properly you’ll see there is drop down in Adsense income but Infolinks income is growing up. Not that much but not everything is just bad. And that’s the main thing.

Reason why I got less money from Adsense in February?

February is the shortest month. Even this year was February 29 days long, it’s still two days less than January.

Another thing is, in almost every industry on this planet, January and February are quiet months. And that should be another reason why I made less with Adsense and more with Infolinks. Advertisers was probably trying new, cheaper ways to show their ads. Also with less competition between advertisers, we publishers get less money for showing ads. It’s simple. Anyway, in March I’m expecting my online income to grow. Yes I’m always optimist.

Don’t just think about money, make some!

Change thinking and make some cash

So you want to make money online? Then you should have some smart rules. If you don’t have any, here is the first one.

Rule No1: Don’t think about Money!

If you would just thinking about the money, soon or later your brain lock everything else and you’ll end up with nothing in your pocket. One example:

I remember the time I was selling in shop with gadgets and games. Actually I was also selling vegetable when I was 13 years old but that’s a different story. Anyway, in this shop I had lots of customers who always came back to me even the competition was about three minutes  walking distance from my shop. They came back because they knew I didn’t try to sell the most expensive product, I was always looking at everything through their eyes. I told them many times not to take the expensive one because I knew the cheaper product will absolutely be better for their needs. The customer’s needs was always the first priority. I never even looked at them like “somebody who bring some money to the shop” I always looked at them as somebody who I can help finding the right product for their needs.

Always follow rule No 1!

That’s no matter if you are selling cars or writing new post for your Pro Blog. Always think about your reader’s or customer’s interest first. Don’t think about money, the money will follow. Follow the Rule No1 and your customers or readers will be coming back because you care about them not about the money. I always did and will think about the help I can give to my readers and keep the money far away from my mind.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m making money from my Pro Blogs, even Smart Pro Blog is doing well with with just few affiliate links. But the whole idea of the post about GoDaddy Domain Voucher (the first post with affiliate link) is to help. Monthly income report January 2012

Monthly online income report for January 2012

Today I’m starting what I was thinking about for months because this can be really nice inspiration for everyone who is thinking about making money online. I want to show you that everything is possible and even I’m not making 5 figure numbers each month, it is possible to reach it.

When I was with my beautiful fiancé at Malta, celebrate the coming of the New Year 2012 I was thinking about this online income again. Malta was really good choice.

  1. Because the weather was more summer then winter time for me.
  2. Also because International Living Magazine has recommended Malta as the best place to live at (it was actually in January 2011).
  3. And the minimal wage in 2011 was about 660 Euro per month (550 GBP/870 USD).

Where I’m going? Right. I was happy with the money from internet of course. As a side income to my wages from my 9-5 job. But at Malta I have seen people who are living of the same money as my “side income” but they get it from their 9-5 job. I realised that my “side income” already grew up and I should call it Business income. Because even if I lost my job I’ll be able to live of it and it feels really nice.

We already done some progress in building Pro Blog here, now is the time to find the hosting company. Last couple of weeks I was actually looking for cheap hosting because I don’t want to spend your money, especially at the beginning of your project.

Free Hosting

When I started with building sites, my first site was on free hosting. I had lots of fun and later moved to paid services. You can also start with free hosting if you want to and move to paid one after you get some visitors.

There is bad and good free hostings around the globe and after spending lots of hours reading about hosting companies because at this moment I don’t use any free hosting I found two good ones:

    1. Xtreemhost  is a web hosting service that provides free and cheap unlimited hosting including PHP and MySQL support. Both (free and paid) services are without ads! If you can’t afford paid hosting or just don’t want to pay before you see first visitors, this is the chance for you.
    2. host961 is actually NOT free hosting. But you can try their free Trial for 10 days. I know, you can get many hosting providers with free trial but this one is here because their hosting is incredibly cheap. The cheapest package cost  $0.50 per month, it’s possible to use PayPal and pay monthly*.

Note: I’m not using any of those two hosting companies I just done massive research and the result is based on reviews I read. I was just looking for good free and cheap hosting for your starting project.

Cheap Hosting

In those years of my “online existence” I use to used lots of hosting providers and all I can say is, don’t use only one. At this moment I use 7 companies just because I don’t want to keep all eggs in one basket. Even the best provider go sometimes down and the smart way is to keep min. 80% of my income running. From all those hostings I’m using right now I would recommend only one because we want to keep it as cheap as possible. Cheapest is NOT always the best way but we are talking about new blog and it means low bandwidth. And for the beginning is always nice to keep cost as low as possible. We already saved some money with buying the domain name and now we will save again. It’s always smart to run the business with as little expenses as possible, especially at the beginning. And each of my new Pro Blogs is actually new business and I’m trying to spend on it as less money as possible because you never know when will the money be coming back to you. So instead of monthly paying£ 3.99 or even £6.99 to the big hosting boys I love to pay less. Do you? With this hosting** you will. The cheapest monthly package is just under three GBP. Yes I’m not comparing one or two year payments, you should always compare monthly payments because all we want to do is try the host for one or two months and then decide if we want to stay with it. Also I recommend this hosting for beginners because the support provided is awesome and you’ll get the answer in matter of minutes. Another good thing, you can choose from three locations, one in the UK and two in the US. The payment processor PayPal and it’s possible to pay monthly*.

 

* I always prefer to pay for any hosting every month because you never know how long will be the hosting package good enough for you. I know, there is always sweet price with annual or even bi-annual hosting. Simple, don’t go there unless you try the company for couple of months. You can end up really bad. Big hosting companies will allow only one or two year payments, please think about it again. You are just starting with new project. Do you really know where you will be in one year time?

We have already done lot of work together. We found the niche we want to write about, done the important keyword research and now we need to buy Domain name for our Pro Blog. Because we want to do it the smart way, we will pick domain using the most searched keyword phrase. Take your list of keywords and find the most searched phrase. The reason is simple. We want to get lots of traffic to our Pro Blog and where we can get it free? From search engines. It’s not about Google, Yahoo or Bing, around the globe is hundreds of search engines you never heard about and all of them have millions of search users. Users who can be your visitors only because you choose the right keyword for your domain name. Those search engines are more than happy to show your Pro Blog on the first page and they’ll do it because your domain name contains the right keyword and also on your blog is lost of articles about the particular keyword. They are more than happy because they know they found the best for the user request.

Win Win Win Situation

For searching user it’s win situation. He was looking for the keyword and found your Pro Blog.

For search engine it’s win win situation because they found your blog and they’ll keep the user happy.

For you it’s win win win situation because you get your new visitor, without spending money on advertising and because search engines are keeping your Pro Blog pretty high in search results.

It’s not so easy, of course. You need to write about the keyword, do more on page SEO optimization, ect. BUT, the right domain name is important because it can help the result. I would say 30% better result with the right domain name. It means you will jump over the competition with the same article quality and age. Just because you did your research and brought the right domain name.

Choosing Domain Extension

You can choose from hundreds of domain extensions but most important is your target audience. Do you want to get most visitors from your country? Get the extension of your country. If you want to get visitors from around the planet, try to get one of those three:

  1. com
  2. net
  3. org

There is nothing different for search engine ranking and you can be on the first page of any search engine with no difference.

I always prefer com. If you thing about domains like properties, com is the top floor flat with nice sea view. Yes, they are more expensive if you try to buy aged com domain compare to net or org domain. They are more expensive because if users remember the name of web and can’t remember extension, they simply type .com behind the domain name. Com is simply something “bigger” in our heads. If is any chance I always grab the com. If something went wrong with the blog I can always sell it for better price than net or org. Anyway, as I said before, there is no difference for the ranking in search engines and if you, for some reason, prefer net or org, get it.

Can’t find the right Domain name?

Did you tried all your keywords and extensions and everything is already used? You can always try the keyword research again or use with your desired domain name one of those words:

  1. info
  2. best
  3. my
  4. web
  5. site
  6. blog…

There is so many words you can add to your domain name. Just don’t end up with buying the used domain name for your new project. We want to make money, not spend everything before the Pro Blog even start get traffic. Just let the domain for bigger fish or for later when you’ll be a bit bigger and get the domain name for registration fee.

Note: The cheapest com domain is possible to by from GoDaddy. I have almost all domain with GoDaddy and I’m pretty happy with their services and prices specially with using the voucher codes.

In last How To I was talking about finding the passion for your blog. Now is the time to move on and get the idea how many people share the exactly same passion with you. It will be your visitors in the very close future and because you are smart blogger, you care about them even before you register the domain name. I’ll talk about registering the right domain name later but if you want to skip it and get the domain right now, make sure you save some money with this GoDaddy Coupon and save more than 35% on your purchase.

Find a profitable niche

If you want to get some kind of profit from your blog, you need the traffic first. And that’s the reason why we need to find niche with good amount of searches. Most difficult part is the list of keywords we are able to work with and write about. Type in keywords from your list, each to one row. Tick on the left side [Exact] searches and hit the search button. You’ll get results of your keywords and also up to 800 additional keywords. Sort these keywords by “ Global Monthly Searches” from highest to lowest. You can use Local Monthly Searches as well if you want to get idea about particular  country. Of course, the more searches, the more visitors can land on your Pro Blog.

We are interested in phrases with more than 20,000 global searches (or 10,000 local ones). Don’t go any lower because it’s pretty hard to get traffic to any site under those numbers. Not impossible but hard and we want to do it the smart way.

Can you see High competition next to your keywords? Competition is good. And the higher, the better. This tool is for Adwords and the competition is for ads in the system. Right, check the desired domain name and if is available, add it to your shopping cart. You”l see on the right side of GoDaddy page Pending Registration. There is the domain name you want to purchase. Hit the Continue to Registration and Log in. If you don’t have GoDaddy account, simply create one.

In the second step set the domain registration length from one to 10 years. I always do one or two years.

In next step you can set the privacy, I never used even when it was free and leaved with standard registration.

In fourth step you can add e-mail and hosting to your domain, read some reviews first.

GoDaddy has great name if we are talking about domains and I will always recommend their domain services. But if you check out reviews about their hosting, you wont be so impressed. I actually used to host couple of domains with GoDaddy few years ago. It wasn’t so bad, just another provider was much cheaper. That time I had all domains with low traffic and the service was fine. The only think I didn’t liked was admin interface. I would say, GoDaddy domains YES. I wouldn’t recommend hosting because I never tried it with heavy traffic and that’s the point what lots of complaints are about. May I’ll try GoDaddy hosting again with some heavy traffic blog (yes I onw few of them) and than let you know about the quality.

 

Hit the next button and you’ll see summary of your shopping. And here is the domain name cost ($7.49) plus ICANN fee.

If is there different or full price plus ICANN fee, something went wrong. You should clear your cookies in internet browser and start again. If you don’t know how to clear cookies, let me know in comments, I’ll write quick guide about it.

Click on Continue to Checkout and pay for the domain.

That’s it. It was pretty easy to get the domain name from GoDaddy nearly for half price, wasn’t it?
